What a heated driveway actually does

Most people picture the big storms when they think about winter driveways. What actually wears you down is the fourth small snowfall in ten days, the ridge of packed slush the plow leaves across the bottom of the drive, and the layer of ice sitting under all of it by mid January.

A heated driveway takes care of that on its own. Heating cable or tubing goes in under the surface, sensors watch for snow and temperature, and the system runs without you. You can be at work, out of town or asleep and the driveway is still clear.

Electric or hydronic

Electric is heating cable under the surface. It costs less to install, more per hour to run, and it's a simpler job. That suits most standard Brampton lots and it's what we install most often.

Hydronic circulates heated glycol through tubing and needs a boiler and manifold. It costs more up front and runs cheaper per hour, so it earns its keep on large surfaces like the estate lots out toward Caledon.

We'll tell you which one suits your property. If your driveway still has ten good years in it, we'll tell you that too, because tearing up a driveway that doesn't need replacing is a waste of your money.
